FAQ: Defense Grid: The Board Game

Will the Stretch Goal miniatures be used in the main game?

Yes! The 10 included Missions, as well as the 24 Bonus Challenge Missions will use these extra Missions. Our early prototypes had as many as 100 miniatures that we had to scale back from. Unlocking these stretch goals is enabling us to make the game more like our original vision as far as wave makeups and challenge are concerned.

How to I write on the AI Upgrade Cards? I don't want to damage the cards!

We have 2 solutions for you.

As a part of our first stretch goal, we added Card Sleeves for these upgrade cards. You can use these with wet or dry erase markers so you can mark off upgrades and reset them later.

In addition, we will be posting full, printable character upgrade sheets on our upcoming website and boardgamegeek.com.

Can I build more towers than what are included in the game?

Not for the included Missions or our planned Challenge Missions.

That being said, using our Creator Toolset, players are welcome to build more complicated Missions and allow themselves to have access to more Towers than we provide by default in the game.

What format are the creator tools provided in?

The Creator Tools are built using Adobe Photoshop Creative Cloud and Adobe InDesign Creative Cloud. These are layered *.psd and *.indd files. In addition, the InDesign file will require you to create a .xls file to import the wave information that it uses to build your waves.

In addition to these proprietary formats, we are looking into providing them, if possible, in more open formats that will work with tools like GiMP.

If there are any layered formats that you would like to have them available in, or believe amy work, please let us know.

How do you play the game Solo?

When we planned solo play, or first rule was that we would NOT require players to run multiple characters. You can if you want to, but are not required to do so.

We balance reduced player counts, including solo play, by changing the following when there are less players playing. - Aliens have less Hit Points - Players draw more cards - Starting Resources are increased

Our goal is to make the difficulty for each player count roughly the same, with the exception of Solo Play. Based on our discussions with the Solo gaming community, including 1 Player Guild on Board Game Geek, we have opted to increase the difficulty slightly for solo play over other players counts as this is usually more desirable for the community.

How hard is the game?

Based on our over 1000 playtests, we have tried to balance it so that most teams will earn a silver or bronze medal on each Mission as they progress through the campaign, with limited need to go back and replay Missions.

In the rules we also provide simple changes that can be made to either increase or decrease the difficulty of the game. These include everything from changing the Mission rewards earned to adjusting alien Hit Points.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
