Final Planned Update - Bonus Missions Complete
almost 4 years ago – Tue, May 19, 2020 at 01:38:13 AM

This is my final planned update for the Kickstarter.  There is a small chance i may make another update (details below).

BONUS MISSIONS

First, the Mission Booklet contains story content that has neither been reviewed nor approved by Hidden Path Entertainment.  This is not considered canon and should not be treated as such.  This is simply being released to fulfill my original Kickstarter obligation of bonus maps and the story content was created as part of that deliverable to help hold the missions together.

The 24 bonus mission pack is complete and uploaded to http://dg-missions.forgedbygeeks.com (address also on back of in-box Mission Booklet).  The file is called "Bonus Missions" and is around 89MB.  I will be working to set this up on BoardGameGeek.com in the near future as well.

I would like to thank Marcel Cwertetschka for the amazing work on these maps.  I probably should have hired him to help produce maps for the original release of the game.  These are seriously impressive.  He produced the maps, did all the booklet layout work using just the files I created for the original game, playtested them, ran a beta test through my discord, managed proofing, and delivered.

If you ever work on a board game, I would highly recommend reaching out to him.  In addition to the work he did here, he has also worked on Gloomhaven, Frosthaven, and a bunch of other games.  He is full service.  You can reach him @ [email protected]

ALIEN MINIATURES

These are likely never going to happen.  I still dream that one day I will be able to make them and deliver them to the backers as promised, but at this point I would not advise anyone to expect to receive them.

I have lost almost $100,000 on this Kickstarter and to make the Alien Miniatures would cost me about another $35,000 (at least) in molds and a 1,000 unit run.  This is also assuming that Panda still has the masters I sent them years ago and that they could locate them if I asked.

The only thing I can say is that I am blessed to make a lot of money in my field of work, but I am still recovering from this Kickstarter.  If, and this is a huge if, I ever get into a situation where I am sitting on $30,000 to $50,000 and don't foresee any other urgent need for the money, I may try to get them produced.  Just speaking personally, the masters were awesome and I want a set for myself.

If that day ever comes, and I am able to confirm ability to make them with Panda, I will send all backers a new request personally to confirm they still want them and to confirm a delivery address.  That being said, this likely wouldn't happen for at least 2 - 3 years at this point if ever.

Anyone who hasn't yet received a $15 refund for the Alien Miniatures and would still like one, I will leave the door open until June 30th, 2020 to request one.  After that, the door will officially be closed (I may be closing the business at that point as well).

To request a refund, send an email to [email protected]

BACKER UPDATE

This may be hard to believe, but we still have 2 outstanding backers.  1 Backer paid but despite repeated attempts at contacting them they have never told us where they want it delivered.  The other backer never finalized their BackerKit and never returned any contacts as well.

I have 3 remaining copies that I didn't dispose of in my garage in case these people contact me.  If they do not reach out or return my messages by the end of June 30th, 2020 I will consider these copies forfeit and will not be able to provide them with their product.

The Update I hoped to never make... & optional Alien Miniatures Refund
over 4 years ago – Thu, Aug 08, 2019 at 03:19:10 AM

THE APOLOGY & EXPLANATION

So, honestly I put this off for about 3 months now and that sucks and I am really sorry about it.  I hoped things would change, and they unfortunately have not.

Making the Alien Miniatures will lose me tens of thousands of additional dollars.  My plan was to take literally all of the proceeds from selling the remaining copies of the game to cover the costs of producing the Alien Miniatures, but, they haven't sold well yet.

Post release, we have only sold through about 15% of our extra copies so far.  This is largely due to us not being on Amazon.  We are trying to get on Amazon, but are likely 1 - 2 months out yet.  Even if we get on Amazon, it could take months longer to sell through a few hundred copies.

STILL PLANNING TO MAKE THE ALIEN MINIATURES

As of right now, I am still planning to make the Alien Miniatures, but (and this is a BIG but), if I was in your shoes, I would not expect to receive them until end of 2020.

I know this is going to piss off a lot of people and rightfully so.  I would be pissed.  Hell, it took all I had not to post a screed at Pootz for the KDM delay the other day.  Trust me I get it, and frankly, if you are pissed I encourage you to post a reply and say so.  Venting is healthy and you have earned the right to do so because I didn't communicate this sooner and you have been waiting.

If you read deeper into what I posted, I am also saying they may not be produced.  This is a reality.  I am starting a new job, have almost no time to think about or work on board games anymore, and I don't see that changing for months.  Best case, about the time we may sell through the remaining copies, I will be able to take a week off and get done what I need to do to make the Alien Miniatures become a reality.  But, that is no guarantee.

To be clear, I want to make them and I intend to make and deliver them as promised.

REFUNDS

Anyone who backed the Kickstarter and doesn't either want the Alien Miniatures anymore or doesn't want to wait for the possibility of getting them can request a refund of $15 for each copy they backed.

All you have to do is message me on Kickstarter or send me an email to [email protected] asking for it.

All I need is your PayPal account email address so I can make sure the money will make it back to you.  If you request by email, please also let me know your name and email address associated with Kickstarter so I can verify you were a backer and keep track of the refunds.

I will process the refunds once per week, likely on Saturday or Sunday since I will have more availability to do so then.

At any point from now until the Alien Miniatures are delivered, anyone can request a refund for them.  Don't feel like you need to request now or never.  The business account has enough money in it that I could pay out this refund for everyone this weekend if requested.  I am good for it and that money is the business's money, not my personal money anymore (though it was all injected into the account from my personal funds a few months ago).

BONUS MAPS

So yea, this also means I don't have the time to make the bonus maps.  In addition, the turnout for the contests to create them was not as good as I hoped.

To deliver these, I am in the process of contracting the wonderful designer that produced the Gloomhaven Expansion called Forgotten Circles.  He is a huge fan of Defense Grid: The Board Game and is willing to produce the remaining 22 maps for me at a rate we already discussed.  I just need to find the time to get the contract to him to get it signed.  Once done, the plan is at least 1 per month, but if he produces them faster I am going to provide them to the community as fast as he delivers them.

I am still informing the map making process.  I will be creating the theme and goals of all the maps to ensure they align with the original plan and vision for them.  I am not going fully hands off.  I just don't have the time to design and test them all myself.  Note, its just me now, Rico moved on almost a year ago.

So once again, super sorry.  I didn't want to have to do this, but this is the reality right now.

Thanks again for backing and hope you are enjoying the game.

Looking for native German gamers to review translation
almost 5 years ago – Wed, May 15, 2019 at 09:57:13 PM

We have a German translation of all Defense Grid: The Board Game cards and are considering releasing them in the next couple of weeks.

Before doing so, we would love it if we could get a couple of additional native German speakers to review the translations.

If you are willing to help, please send me an email to [email protected] and I will send you a link to all the card files to review.

Thanks!
